Keeping the faith is harder than ever. We must do it anyway.
I want to share something personal.
When I was three years old, I watched my father die from a rare but treatable illness. He didn't get the health care he needed. My mother had to raise three children on her own.
But she kept the faith. And the congregation at Takoma Park Seventh-day Adventist Church surrounded her with love and care. It got us through one of the darkest chapters of our lives.
My great-grandfather Josiah fled the Ku Klux Klan in the middle of the night. My grandfather James returned to America alone with his thick Jamaican accent and led a predominantly white church. Through it all, they kept the faith.
"Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen." — Hebrews 11:1
These days, it's easy to succumb to the darkness. But that's exactly what those who seek to divide us want. We must not give it to them.
