For years, I was the only member of the House Armed Services Committee to vote against bloated Pentagon budgets. This year, 11 other Democrats joined me.
That's because more and more Americans are asking a simple question:
Why is there always money for war, but never enough money to lower costs, strengthen schools, expand healthcare, or help working families?
I first ran for Congress because I opposed the Iraq War. I've seen what happens when Congress abandons its responsibility and allows fear, special interests, and Pentagon contractors to dictate American foreign policy.
We cannot afford to repeat those mistakes.
We don't need another trillion-dollar military budget. We need a government that puts the American people ahead of endless wars and weapons contracts.
