Jason, our team was reading about the surge in newly registered voters in Texas, and we started to do some math – stay with us, this gets pretty interesting:
- In 2016, there were 15.1 million registered voters in Texas.
- This year, 16.9 million Texans are registered to vote – an increase of 1.8 million people.
- In 2016, Donald Trump beat Hillary Clinton in Texas by a little over 800,000 votes.
- So if Powered by People volunteers are able to have conversations with those new voters and turn them out for Democrats up and down the ballot, we could easily close the margins from 2016, and still give Joe Biden an extra one million votes.
Can you sign up for a phone bank to help us reach those new voters?
Spending even two hours talking to voters could make a drastic difference in turnout, Jason. The work we do today is the difference between another four disastrous years of a Trump presidency and ten years of Republican gerrymandering and voter suppression in Texas. The payoff is worth it.
It's just math.
We hope to see you this week,
