If you've ever watched a Congressional Hearing, you know I'm often saying "reclaiming my time" as witnesses try to avoid answering questions about how they've taken advantage of taxpayers, shortchanged employees, or lied to Americans.
I get a lot of fundraising emails from different candidates, and I know they don't always answer a fundamental question: Why are you running? So in the interest of reclaiming YOUR time, here are just a few answers about why I'm in this race and why I hope to earn your support:
| Q: Why are you running for the Senate? A: I'm running because our country isn't working for the majority of working people. For too long, politicians funded by big corporate interests have rigged the rules against families, making it difficult to get ahead. I'm not afraid to stand up to leaders of both parties to get things done. |
| Q: Why are you the best candidate for the job? A: As a consumer protection attorney and now a Member of Congress, I've spent my career delivering for Californians and protecting taxpayers. In the House, I was the only Democrat to oppose "earmarks," which are a way to fund Members' pet projects. I'm leading the fight to ban congressional stock trading, and the whiteboard you may have seen me bring to hearings is more than a fun prop—my questioning of witnesses in Congressional Hearings secured free COVID testing for every American, helped us pass bills that lowered drug costs, and showed how corporate profits are driving inflation. |
| Q: What differentiates you from the other Democrats in the race? A: I've never accepted a dime from corporate PACs, and I'm the only candidate in this race who is rejecting contributions from federal lobbyists, and Big Oil, Big Pharma, and Big Bank CEOs. I'm proud our campaign is truly people-powered. |
