This is the first poll to show Katie trailing our Republican opponent, Steve Garvey. The former LA Dodger is relying on his personal wealth and fame to win over voters, and he seems to be inching closer to a second place finish in the primary.
Remember, the top two vote getters in March's primary, regardless of party, move on to the general election in November. So if Katie doesn't finish first or second in March, her time in Washington will come to an end—welcome news for Big Oil and Wall Street.
We know we still have what it takes to pull off a win. Polling shows that 20-30% of voters remain undecided, so winning over these folks will be key. And primaries tend to have lower turnout, so we've got to make sure we're communicating with our voters to get them to the polls (or, just to their mailbox to drop their ballot).
The #1 way we'll reach voters is through TV and digital ads, alongside campaign stops and events throughout the state. But we haven't been able to get up on TV because our fundraising is way below where we predicted. This is likely contributing to the widening gap between Katie and our opponents.
