A few years ago, I wouldn't have guessed I'd be in your inbox asking for support ahead of an "end-of-quarter deadline."
But these emails do something pretty powerful, they allow people like me–a single mom of three who had no experience in politics prior to running in 2018–to compete against politicians who have spent decades climbing the ladders of Washington, collecting corporate checks. So here I am, humbly asking via email for you to chip in $3, $7, or $20 before our federal end-of-quarter fundraising deadline tonight.
Congress wasn't built for people like me. When I first got to Washington, I was the only single mom of school-age kids serving. There were groups like the Bourbon Caucus and the Beer Caucus—but not a caucus focused on the cost of higher education.
And while at times that is frustrating, I didn't come to Washington to play by the rules! I came to Washington to shake things up, and that's what I've been able to do thanks to the support of Porter Supporters like you. With my whiteboard in tow, we've not only called out skyrocketing CEO pay and brought life to Congressional Hearings, but passed real legislation to lower drug costs, raise rates on polluters, and strengthen our economy.
Now, I'm running to take our fight to the U.S. Senate. Californians deserve a warrior fighting for them, not just their biggest donors—and I'm proud to be the only candidate in this race who is rejecting both corporate PAC and federal lobbyist money. But I won't sugarcoat it—our campaign has been outraised every quarter so far.
Thanks SO much,
Katie
