If you've ever watched a Congressional Hearing, you know I'm often saying "reclaiming my time" as witnesses try to avoid answering questions about how they've taken advantage of taxpayer money, shortchanged employees, or misled Americans.
I get a lot of fundraising emails from different candidates, and I know they don't always answer a fundamental question: Why are you running? So in the interest of reclaiming YOUR time, here are just a few answers about why I'm in this race and why I hope to earn your support:
Q: Why are you running for the Senate? A: I'm running because our country isn't working for most working people. For too long, politicians funded by big corporate interests have rigged the rules against families, making it difficult to get ahead. I'm not afraid to stand up to leaders of both parties to get things done. |
Q: Why are you the best candidate for the job? A: As a consumer protection attorney and now a Member of Congress, I've spent my career delivering for Californians. Rooting out corruption and standing up against the status-quo will always be one of my top priorities. That's why I was the only House Democrat to oppose "earmarks," which are a way to fund Members' pet projects, when Congress brought them back in 2021. I'm leading the fight to ban congressional stock trading, and the whiteboard you may have seen me bring to hearings is more than a fun prop—my questioning of witnesses in Congressional Hearings secured free COVID testing for every American, helped us pass bills that lowered drug costs, and showed how corporate profits are driving inflation. |
Q: Why are you asking me for money? A: I'm the only candidate in this race who has never taken a dime from corporate PACs and doesn't take money from federal lobbyists or executives at Big Oil companies, Big Pharma, or Wall Street Banks. It makes hitting our fundraising goals more difficult, but I believe we need to lead by example to get corporate money out of politics. |
Our end of quarter fundraising deadline is September 30th at midnight. Last quarter, we were outraised by another candidate in the race. This quarter, we need to catch up. If you're with me, can you please make a donation of $5 today?
Thanks a ton,
Katie Porter
