With President Biden's announcement about Medicare negotiations, Big Pharma is getting straight to work
This week the Biden Administration announced ten commonly used drugs that Medicare will now be able to negotiate the price of.
While this is great news for American taxpayers and patients, Big Pharma isn't happy.
Big Pharma is bringing lawsuits to courts across the country to try and curb Medicare's ability to negotiate prices. And they're continuing to mislead the public about what these negotiations mean. One of their favorite myths to spread is that lowering costs will stifle research and development of new treatments.
I've proven the opposite is true. Big Pharma companies are the ones who curb research when they purchase smaller, innovative firms and eliminate competition. The executives and big shareholders are the only ones who benefit from this.
I've held Big Pharma accountable since coming to Congress in 2019, and this year my bill to rein in their price-gouging took effect. But there's so much more to be done and serious work to do to defend even the bit of progress we've made. Pharmaceutical companies and most Members of Congress have a strong relationship—but I'm proud to be one of the very few who doesn't take money from corporate PACs, federal lobbyists, or Big Pharma CEOs.
