Did you see this, Jason?
First, Joe Biden flipped on his own No Super PACs Pledge — deciding to encourage billionaires to form a massive one that can bankroll his campaign with unlimited contributions from corporations and special interests.
Then, CNN asked Beto if he would do the same in order to compete with Biden trying to buy this primary — but Beto said, "There is no room for PACs or Super PACs. We're running a grassroots campaign."
Now, a lot of people are saying this could put us at a major disadvantage — unless our grassroots movement proves otherwise. Help us win the right way, and show how powerful grassroots donors can be: Chip in $10 or anything you can now to get Beto's back on this.
Super PACs can receive UNLIMITED contributions from corporations and special interests. So it's no wonder CNN asked Beto if he'd reconsider taking these giant checks. But take a look at the transcript of what he said:
"We see far too much influence from those who can buy access and increasingly outcomes in our legislation and in our elections...There is no room for political action committees, or super PACs…I haven't taken PAC money for more than five years. We're running a grassroots campaign. Everyone who has gone to betoorourke.com and donated $10 has fueled this effort to make sure that we can get out to voters. That's the way that our democracy should work, and I'm going to stay with my commitment not to take PAC money or super PAC money in this race."
We're proud of Beto's answer. He is taking a bold stand against the corruption, greed, special interests, and corporations that have influenced our elections — and Washington, DC — for far too long. That's the leadership we need.
But it's clear that we're now competing against more big money than ever before and need your help so we can stay competitive in our fundraising. Will you chip in $10 and help us raise $200,000 before the end of the month?
Let's stand strong with Beto,
–Team Beto
